Continuing an ongoing relationship between the universities, students from Kanazawa University in Japan recently came to UCCS for an education-based visit.
Five students, all future teachers, and two faculty, one focused on special education and the other on music education, traveled to the U.S. to see an American perspective on education. Along with meeting UCCS Chancellor Jennifer Sobanet and faculty, staff and students, they spent time at various public schools interacting with students, observing lessons, meeting with teachers and administrators and touring facilities.
The Kanazawa University visitors were hosted by College of Education Associate Professor Scott Kupferman and visited the Colorado School for the Deaf and Blind, Gold Camp Elementary, Sabin Middle School, Thomas MacLaren School and the UCCS Family Development Center. Teaching Professor Mioko Webster facilitated opportunities for the Kanazawa University students to participate in UCCS Japanese Language courses. Associate Dean Monica Yoo organized a welcome reception as well.
“This collaborative experience builds upon prior successful exchange activities between the two universities, nurturing our institutional relationship, and creating lifelong friends and colleagues,” said Kupferman.
In addition to the school visits, the Kanazawa University students attended multiple UCCS courses and participated in social activities with students from the UCCS Department of Teaching and Learning, as well as the UCCS Japanese Club.
