After more than 20 years of extraordinary service to UCCS, Stephanie Hanenberg, interim vice chancellor for Enrollment Management and Student Affairs, will retire on July 15.
Few individuals have shaped the student experience at UCCS as profoundly and thoughtfully as Hanenberg. Throughout her career, she has dedicated herself to expanding and strengthening the ways the university supports student health, wellbeing and success. In numerous leadership roles over the years, she helped develop many of the programs, services and systems that define student support at UCCS today.
Hanenberg has long been recognized as a tireless advocate for students and for the faculty and staff who support them. Her leadership has consistently combined compassion with innovation, particularly in advancing integrated wellness services across campus. Through her efforts, UCCS emerged as a national leader in student wellness and support.
Her influence can be seen throughout the university community, from health and mental health services to recreation, wellness promotion, disability services, housing and dining — all areas that play a vital role in the daily student experience.
Over the last two years, Hanenberg has provided steady leadership as interim vice chancellor for Enrollment Management and Student Affairs during a period of significant transition and change. Under her direction, the division strengthened and centralized student support services, sharpened its focus on strategic enrollment and retention, and continued to prioritize a student-centered experience across EMSA.
Known for leading with empathy, vision and steadiness, Hanenberg cultivated a culture of care, collaboration and trust that will continue to benefit the campus community for years to come.
“I am personally grateful for Stephanie’s leadership, partnership and friendship over the years, and for the many ways she has strengthened this university through her thoughtful and compassionate approach,” said Chancellor Jennifer Sobanet.
Simply put, Hanenberg’s contributions to UCCS are immeasurable. While she will be deeply missed by colleagues, students and friends across campus, her legacy will endure through the countless lives and programs she helped shape.
Dr. Jon Caudill will serve as interim vice chancellor for Enrollment Management and Student Affairs beginning June 1, 2026. Caudill brings extensive leadership experience to the role, along with a deep understanding of UCCS and its mission. He is well-positioned to support the university’s continued focus on military-affiliated students, concurrent enrollment and adult learners.
The EMSA leadership team has expressed confidence in the transition and the division’s path forward. Together with EMSA directors and staff, and with support from enrollment leaders across UCCS and the CU system, Caudill will provide continuity and stability as the division continues its important work in support of student success.
