The Office of Institutional Equity invites all students, faculty, and staff to provide input on the newly revised Consensual Amorous Relationships Policy. Vice President of Compliance and Equity and System Title IX Coordinator Valerie Simons led a working group of faculty and staff from all CU campuses to review the policy. The working group has shared initial drafts and is now entering a system-level review for broader input. Campuses will also hold student focus groups to review the policy, providing an opportunity to give feedback.
While reviewing the policy, keep the following overarching goals for updating this policy in mind:
Goal 1: The definition of “evaluative authority,” meaning the power someone has to impact another person’s education or career, was expanded to enhance protections.
Goal 2: Establish clear prohibitions and disclosure requirements regarding consensual amorous relationships.
Goal 3: Clearly explain the difference between consensual relationships (governed by the Consensual Amorous Relationships Policy) and non-consensual or unwanted behaviors (governed by Sexual Misconduct, Intimate Partner Violence, and Stalking Policy). These are governed by two different policies.
