Healthy Campus: Census numbers, FAQ updated

The University Leadership Team is dedicated to communicating clearly and often as UCCS works through the Healthy Campus Initiative. Check UCCS News and the Healthy Campus website for regular updates on the work being done.

General Updates

• The Frequently Asked Question section of the Healthy Campus Initiative website will be updated with new questions by the end of this week. Dozens of submissions have been received through the webform, survey and other avenues, and the ULT is working diligently on answering them all thoroughly. The feedback webform remains open and the FAQ will continue to be updated weekly.

• The Office of Strategic Initiatives is currently conducting the analysis of the Healthy Campus Feedback survey and curating a report that reflects the over 650 recommendations provided in the survey. Thank you for providing these insights, recommendations, and feedback. The full analysis and report will be shared in the coming weeks.

• The official Spring 2026 Census Report is in. The extended version is available online here: Census Report.

Total Enrollment: 10,319 students (-3.55% decrease from spring 2025). 9,656 taking Main Campus courses (-3.23% decrease) — this is our State Reportable Headcount and the total that is reported for budget planning

Total Credit Hours: 117,202 (Main Campus + Extended Studies, -2.89% decrease from spring 2025). 113,824 State Reportable credit hours (-2.93% decrease from last spring and 91% of our fall 2025 total)

New Students: 7,911 State Reportable credit hours are for newly admitted students (by registration type). This is a 3% increase from last fall. New Freshman enrollment is up 10% from spring 2025

29% of our students are Military Affiliated, a 2.4% increase from last spring.

34% of our undergraduate students are considered eligible by the federal government for Federal Pell Grants.

38.1% of our students identify as a Student of Color (Students of Color include those identifying as American Indian/Native Alaskan, Asian, Black/African American, Hispanic, Pacific Islander/Native Hawaiian, and Multi-Racial). 22.9% of our undergraduate degree-seeking students identify as Hispanic.

8.4% of our students are registered with UCCS Disability Services for Accommodations (typically an under-representation of students with disabilities).

Although headcount and credit hours are down, the budget already accounted for this decrease, which helps minimize any impact to the university’s overall financial position.

Just as importantly, our collective efforts over the past month helped improve our credit hours significantly, moving from a 4.8% decline to just 2.8%. We extended the deadline for students to add a course without instructor approval through census, provided targeted funding for additional sections in high-demand courses, and launched a comprehensive outreach campaign encouraging students to enroll, take additional credit hours, and return to UCCS to complete their degrees.
