Thomas Aicher, Dean of the College of Business, was recently accepted into the 2026 class of the Colorado Springs Leadership Institute (CSLI). CSLI aims to enhance local leadership through the development of personal, professional and civic knowledge, and each class has just 16 students. Congratulations, Dean Aicher!
Awards
UCCS won Best College in the inaugural Springs People’s Choice Awards. Ent Center for the Arts received recognition for Best Theatre.
Cyber
Beth Edberg, local cybersecurity tech writer in the DoD industry, visited with UCCS students from the College of Letters, Arts & Sciences last month. When studying Technical Communication & Information Design (TCID), connecting the dots between classes and jobs is key, as with any profession. Brandon Strubberg’s TCID 4080 class got a very thorough overview of what that means. Beth discussed her career path and work/skills pertinent to the industry. The students were really engaged and asked a lot of questions.
As a seasoned technical writer and documentation specialist with extensive experience in cybersecurity and defense contracting, the knowledge Beth shared made for an engaging conversation about careers at the intersection of writing, technology, and security for the TCID 4080 – Technical Communication & Cybersecurity class. Beth shared her professional journey, the core skills needed to succeed in technical communication and cybersecurity, and how AI is influencing the field, even as many roles, especially in her area, still require careful, human-centered technical communication. She also offered students practical strategies for navigating today’s competitive job market. The class of 12 students, including TCID majors and several Computer Science students, actively participated throughout, asking questions about real-world workflows, cross-disciplinary collaboration, and the evolving landscape of cybersecurity communication. Her visit supported the course’s emphasis on how technical communication functions within organizations and gave students a practical, future-oriented look at potential career paths.
