The UCCS men’s soccer team beat out the Metropolitan State University (MSU) of Denver Roadrunners for the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference (RMAC) Championship win on November 15. The final score was 3-2, Mountain Lions.
Though the Roadrunners had a lead into the second half, the Mountain Lions scored an impressive three goals in less than twenty minutes that turned the game to their favor. At the 71-minute mark, UCCS junior forward Jack Cook scored a penalty kick, and just fifteen minutes later, scored again. The Mountain Lions brought it from a tie to a lead only nine seconds after that, when senior forward Miles Seminario scored.
“I am incredibly proud of the men’s soccer program and what they accomplished this year,” said Nathan Gibson, Executive Director of Athletics. “For me, it is not just winning the RMAC Regular Season and Tournament Championships, or advancing to the Sweet 16 in the NCAA National Tournament, it is that we have done this the right way with outstanding student athletes! We have a championship culture, lead by Head Coach Lewis Wilcox and his staff, and I am so excited about what they have accomplished and know that the future is bright! Go Mountain Lions!”
Goalkeeper Hugo Sjöberg played the entire match, with eight shots on him during play and four saves. UCCS had double the MSU shots at sixteen total, along with the most corner kicks. Cook led in scoring, while Seminario led in shots on goal with five total during the game.
Jack Cook was named the RMAC Tournament MVP, and UCCS team members Luke Noameshie, Eduardo Macias, Miles Seminario, Cole Wearner and Hugo Sjöberg were named to the All-Tournament Team.
