Bachelor of Innovation students heard from UCCS Alumnus Scott Oki as part of a lecture series and fireside chat hosted by Ben Kwitek, Ph.D., professor and director of innovation at UCCS.
Oki returned to campus Sept. 16 to share not only his professional journey but also personal insights with current students. A 1974 graduate from the College of Business and now retired employee of Microsoft, Oki recounted his early career challenges, pivotal moments and the values that guided his success. His talk emphasized resilience by gaining scar tissue from failed experiences and encouraged students to not be afraid of failure.
Oki went on to discuss his contributions to creative spaces. He is a published author who has written and released collections of haikus. Oki is currently pursuing a Ph.D. in Education.
Following the presentation, students participated in a dynamic Q&A session, exploring topics like effective networking and the connection between creativity and innovation as complementary forces. Students left with renewed motivation and practical advice. Oki’s visit served as a powerful reminder of the enduring connection between alumni and the academic community at UCCS.
