In a powerful show of support for Colorado’s early childhood workforce, UCCS has been awarded another round of Early Childhood (EC) Scholarship totaling $69,000 in funding. That’s $4,600 per student for 15 passionate individuals preparing to transform the lives of children from birth to age five.

This scholarship isn’t just a number, it’s the difference between a dream deferred and a future launched. Some of our students were considering taking semesters off due to financial strain. Now, with this new funding round, they have a renewed path forward.

What’s especially exciting is that eligibility includes transfer students pursuing their BA, ECSE Apprenticeship students, and graduate students entering our MA program. The emphasis remains on equity, innovation, and building a diverse, highly qualified early childhood education workforce for Colorado.

Scholarships will be available for the Fall 2025 semester, and the clock is ticking. Our IECE team is already hard at work coordinating with the Colorado Department of Early Childhood (CDEC) to ensure a smooth rollout and identify the 15 students who will benefit most.

“Our Inclusive Early Childhood Education Programs are glimmering with delight in sharing that we will be offering 15 scholarships (average award $4,600 each) to both transfer and current students,” said Ashley Lawless, Assistant Teaching Professor and Faculty Director of Inclusive Early Childhood Education. “Through these scholarships we hope to continue creating innovative pathways to higher education here at UCCS.”

Scholarships are being awarded to:

  • students who completed credit for prior learning for one course and want to enroll in one of our IECE programs
  • transfer students to start one of our BA programs
  • students with outside degrees to start master’s-level coursework
