In January 2025, the Office of the Vice Chancellor for Strategic Initiatives launched a UCCS Federal Transition Team, along with a corresponding informational webpage: Federal Updates. The Federal Updates page includes all UCCS communications about the federal transition, as well as a list of resources for faculty and staff.
The UCCS Federal Transition Team works in conjunction with the CU System guidance and UCCS leadership on the federal transition to ensure timely communication and resources for the UCCS community. There will be updates each week in Friday’s Communique newsletter.
This week’s updates:
- There are two new resources on the Federal Transition page: reminders about the Colorado Open Records Act and guidance for managing Federal Agencies regarding immigration.
- The University is subject to the Colorado Open Records Act (“CORA,” C.R.S. § 24-72-201,et. seq.), which requires public records to be open for inspection by any person at reasonable times, except as provided by law. Public records are information created, maintained, or kept by the University that relate to the performance of public functions or the receipt or expenditure of public funds. Learn more here.
- If you are approached by law enforcement or governmental agents seeking information, in all circumstances direct them to UCCS Police at 719-255-3111 who will engage the University’s legal services for support. FERPA protects any record directly related to a student containing personally identifiable information that is kept and maintained by the University. Various legal frameworks also protect certain employee records, including personnel documents and files. Learn more here.
Remember, there are many resources listed on the UCCS Federal Transitions page for anyone feeling stressed or overwhelmed.
