Community Connections: Inspiring Black Icons In Fiction
Monday, Feb. 24 to Friday, Feb. 28 from 12 – 2 p.m. | MOSAIC Lounge (UC 110)
- A celebration of the Black icons who have shaped popular fiction. This week-long event from February 24th through the 28th, will highlight influential Black characters and creators across TV shows, movies, shorts, and series, exploring their impact on entertainment and culture.
UCCS Cyber Tier 1 SOC Analyst Training: Mandatory onboarding and information session
Monday, Feb. 24 from 5 – 6:30 p.m. | Virtual event
- The UCCS Hands-On Tier 1 SOC Analyst Training will expose you to live customer data, teach you how to read logs, scan data, threat hunt, and triage & research alerts to identify anomalies and vulnerabilities in real-world data through the online training system. As a Tier 1 analyst, you will then use a security monitoring tool (Netography) and a ticketing system (JIRA) to report suspicious activity to Tier 2 analysts that can ultimately get escalated to the local governments who have provided the data. Each student must complete 25 tickets in 3 months (that’s about 2 tickets per week) to get your Credly Three Month Badge. Students can choose to continue their education after 3 months to work toward Tier 2 analyst status, where 1 – 2 paid internships will be available. International Affairs Book Club

Rethinking Substance Use through Anti-Oppressive Lenses: Psychedelics and Social Work

- Join us to learn from student ethics ambassador Daniel “Cody” Rinn and ethics fellow advisor Ila DeBose, LCSW, Clinical Assistant Professor/ BSW Practicum Director from the College of Public Service. Proposition 122 has been enacted in Colorado making (almost) all psychedelics decriminalized: a second psychedelic renaissance is upon us whether welcome or not. Rinn and DeBose present a historic, indigenous, racial, cultural, and modern psychological perspective on psychedelic use through a culturally competent and non-biased lens. This is to both educate the broader society of the significant journey these substances have taken, how that has affected our society and culture, and to inform the social work profession of a community needing ethical oversight and implementation. Heritage Month Munch & Learn: Black Heritage Month

- Participate in this monthly program hosted by the Matrix Center in partnership with the Office of Strategic Initiatives, providing an educational opportunity for the UCCS community to learn about the history and significance of nationally celebrated heritage and identity months. This month’s program will highlight Black Heritage Month with Dr. Nina Monet Reynoso, Assistant Professor in WEST. Dr. Monet Reynoso will focus on the idea of “Rage as a praxis of love: Black liberation across time and place” and will discuss how the Combahee River Raid organized and led by Harriet Tubman in 1863 inspired the Combahee River Collective of the 1970s. The lecture will be followed with a brief section of discussion and Q&A. Free lunch is provided.

Shifting the Lens: Real Film, Real Talk
